Zulema Stanbrook was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. Zulema is a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. She attended the Tucson Unified School District and graduated from Cholla High School at the age of 16. She went on to attend both Pima Community College and the University of Arizona. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Zulema worked for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe as an In-School Counselor at a nearby middle school. This piqued Zulema's interest in education and eventually led to her career. She received her master’s degree from Northern Arizona University. She went on to become a Teacher, School Counselor, Learning Support Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and finally Principal. Zulema's 25-year career has led her to her current position, the proud Principal at Lawrence 3-8 School. "I love this school. I love the students, families, and community," Zulema says.
Zulema is married to her husband who is a detective for the Tucson Police Department, and she has a stepson attending college at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Zulema is extremely proud to have obtained her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in K-12 degree. Her dissertation topic was “Native American Graduates’ Sense of Community and It’s Role in the Completion of High School”. Her study proved that having a sense of school community can be valuable and support students in succeeding in school.
